Final Fantasy The Spirits Within is an animated movie special effects artist dreams should be made of. The imagery is incredible. It's like really, really high-tech anime. The visuals are very impressive. There are scenes that are absolutely breathtaking. I don't know that I would recommend Fai and Aki as a couple, but at least the movies had a base of credibility (which the characters lacked). The voice actors are decent. The plot is the only problem, as it is very boring and has nothing to do with the most intriguing parts of the movie's concept, which is anything but fantasy. The movie tries to be cute and has a very dark humor, which is balanced with an air of mystery. However, the movie is more suspense, horror, action, and gore, than the cute and mysterious anime movie that it is trying to be.
The story sounds like it may have been lifted from a sci-fi/fantasy novel, but it's much better than that. The cinematography is good. However, the characters are weak. The attractive Aki looks good wearing her combat gear but hardly has any personality. Fai, the handsome and athletic hero, is an older man, which works well in the first half but makes him seem stale in the second half. Fai endears himself to Aki, which helps fill out gaps in the story but it doesn't feel realistic. The movie's best quality is that it is somewhat realistic. The creatures and the qualities they possess are not too fantastical to be believable or logical. The special effects are acceptable, the fights are crisp, and there is no jerky movement in the animation. The most important thing about the visuals is that the computer art is good if you look hard enough. The graphics are not cheerful as one might expect.
This movie is the CGI version of the 2000 video game \"Final Fantasy VII\". However, this is not really the case as this film, the story and character development are far better than the game itself, even if the quality of scenery differs greatly. If \"FFVII\" is a great game then \"FFVII: Advent Children\" is a great video. The story is fantastic, the action is plentiful and the characters are all great. Of course, it would be better if the battle sequences werent so long. Also this movie has a message to deliver about God, though it seems like this was a wise choice. The only downside is that the film moves at the same pace as the game and it is a little crazy to see certain things happen during the lead up to the battle sequences. Final Fantasy VII started out as a simple story of friendship, but it ended up being nothing like that. This movie is for those who like Zelda, but not for those who like \"Final Fantasy VII\". However, it is definitely one of the best ever made. 7211a4ac4a
